Harmony Midwest Collectors Club Minutes And News
7.20.03

The light's on but nobody's home crowd today is:
Linda Kowalczyk, Jacqui Adler, Sharon Bufton, Tim Sieczko,
Sue & Spencer Schmidt, Barb Correa, Ann Schmidt, Nancy Hix,
Andrea & Pat Perry, Carolyn & Dale Kern
At this meeting: HMW
  • Carolyn & Dale showed up late; don't they know that's Pat & Andrea's job?
  • Today we are meeting early because "Moose", Linda's mom, is taking Linda out for her birthday. "Happy Birthday Linda" xoxoxoxoxo
  • It's George's fault that we didn't have a gourmet meal, he went to band practice and left it all up to Ann. Ann made a cheesy, taco kind of thing with chips for dipping; it was delightful.
  • Our Helping Hands Coordinator (Pat Perry) is doing the minute dance this month instead of George. Once again, it's all George's fault.
  • Jacqui mentioned that she had recently visited the Apple store at Water Tower in downtown Chicago. The floor was see-thru. Then Linda told us about the Beatles Apple store that was in Skokie a long time ago. She recalled that a whorehouse was above the store. This was many moons ago and the crowd agrees it's a repressed memory for Linda.
  • There was a movement and a second to start the meeting. The meeting was then called to order. Of course we had to wait for Linda to stuff her face. I think she got a food buzz because she was tearing the place up. She was throwing paper plates around
  • Meeting called to order!
  • An official big thanks to Nancy for our Loo Bears. 75 Loo Bears were sold at $6 each, $450 total at a cost of $177.61. Club PROFIT **for charity** is $272.39.
  • The upcoming Poet's Party takes place Saturday August 24th at Fin-Alley Gifts (noon till 5 p.m.) This is David Lawrence's new event cat piece "Poet's Party".  The club plans on selling the remaining bears then.
  • Charity moolah at this time is $1890.00  (Not including money from the Loo bears)
  • Pat, once more called order. Everyone shut up (for 5 seconds).
  • Note: Disney auction "Fab 5 in Hollywood" 1st 250 July 21 to July 31, 2nd 250 August 4-August 14. Apparently nobody here is interested in another 5 characters sitting in a car, it's kinda like the first Fab 5 car. If interested, go to the Ebay Disney-Online auctions.          Though we didn't know this at the time of the meeting.... the auction has been delayed and there is no word yet on a new date.
  • Speaking of Disney, lots of HK pieces are now 1/2 price on DisneyStores.com. Check them out!
  • The next event after the Poet's Party Summer Event  is The House of Lords Signing Tour. For locations and dates, check www.harmonykingdom.com and look on the News Page  Our local dealer, Fin-Alley Gifts,  will sponsor an event on October 22, 2003, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  David Lawrence will be there with his new event pieces "Morris On" and "Ganesa's Parade". Again the club plans on selling the remaining Loo bears and will hand out HK candles to club members & customers at this event.
  • Great Escape II
Did anybody else notice the picture on the HK website of the Great Escape II?
The lobsters are grey, unlike version 1 which has red lobsters.
***Webmaster's Note*** That picture has been around since that piece came out. You guys are just noticing it now????
  • This years Indie Club piece is very cute. (We can't wait for it to arrive).  Heaven's Gate is a group of bunnies with a fox, cost is $45.  One has to be a Independent HK club member & a Royal Watch member to purchase this piece. Hats off to HK artist Mel Heald for Heaven's Gate.
  • We were discussing who carved the Minx indie piece from last year. Most of us were thinking it was M. Baldwin. Linda proved us wrong, it was Adam Binder.
  • That Linda, she's on the ball today, with her thinking cap on (a little too tight). She also got the updated club list sent to HOP very early this year, in hopes to get the indie piece in our hands before anyone else. Atta girl Linda!!!
  • This year the club received a very generous donation from Harbour Lights. Most of the HMW members are not into lighthouses, but there are a few of us. Like Pat & Andrea, they collect almost everything! The club feels it's in our best interest to put them up on ebay for auction. We had emailed Harbour Lights to ask if this would be okay with them, and we were informed that the person in charge would contact us shortly, so we'll wait.
  • At Rosemont, HOP had their annual meeting. New officers were elected.
Vice President - Mary Kay DeMayo
    Member-at-Large - Pamela Ferguson
    Treasurer - Johnia Browning
  • This year at Rosemont, HMW did not cause any disruptions or controversy.
This is definitely a first. Either we have finally brought everyone else down to our level,
or we have gotten old and boring.
  • A New Line For HK:
Signature Series - Artist only - input. These pieces will be based on ideas from the artists themselves and not corporate thinking. (There was mention of Martin's sperm paintings)
  • Guest Carving- Some pieces will be carved by guest artists. This could inject some fresh blood into the HK line. Names mentioned were David Winter, Will Bulas, and Adam Binder (Yeah, as if he will be interested), but nothing is decided.
  • DL will be doing a series of frogs (so far only in sketch phase) and Peter is already working on the Fall Fest piece; (a cornucopia with a turkey's head peeking out). Sperm was once again mentioned. Also, there will be a bejeweled piece in a lucky shipment. Peter is also working on a new piece inspired by his Noah's Lark piece.  However, this piece will depict Noah a few days later...and the cost will be much less than the original.
  • There was special applause because Ann sold 3 of the David Winter Jardinia pieces.
    Check them out at www.finalley.com!
  • HMW Club news
We were sent a package from HBC, which included Sunday Swim, Caw of the Wild, and Pastille.  Thanks HBC! They were donated for the multi-club raffle at Rosemont Reunion.  Also donated to the Multi Club raffle was a Rosemont Minx Pendant and 2 Pot Belly Prototypes.  The Prototypes were given to HMW by Ann.
HMW was one of two clubs to ask for a club table at the HOP Swap n Sell and Social Hour at Rosemont. Harmony Lone Star was the other club. Our value gift from HBC will be a special color way of Mrs. Barton's Bureau, due to arrive in Sep
  • Neil and Bern of Eyre Designs donated a limited gold Love At Rosemont Rose to HMW. There are only 4 in existence and HMW has #2 of 4. A raffle has been decided for this special rose to raise moolah for HMW charities. Thank You, Neil and Bern
  • Coming to the close of our monthly meeting we all want to thank Barb for the lovely birthday cake to celebrate Linda's fabulous birthday memory. Thank You Barb
Happy, Happy Birthday to Linda with wet juicy kisses, we love you!!!!
  • Next meeting in conjunction with Poet's Party on Sunday, August 24, 2003.
