-
A Special Thank You to Pat Perry (our Helping Hands Coordinator) for
taking down these minutes!
-
Pat called the meeting to order for Linda. He did so in a very serious tone and
called for silence and attention during the meeting. He also noted that everyone
had had enough time before the meeting to chat, and will have plenty of time for
more chatting after the meeting. Pat went on to say that we should get our club
business done, and then go back to the usual chaos. At this point, everyone
shut
up except Linda, but she was conducting the meeting, so that was OK.
-
Two new people showed up for this meeting; Kay Stemnock and Carolyn Kern.
Carolyn has been a member for some time, but had never attended a meeting. Now
that she has had a taste of our whimsy and careless cavorting,
she will either start attending regularly or notify the authorities.
-
A motion was made and carried for the club to reimburse Ann for supplying
the food for the meetings.
-
Linda says we need to decide on dates and times for the next few meetings
and what to do at each one.
· September: September 22nd, 3pm, Fin Alley.
· October: October 26th, 1-4pm, Fin Alley. This meeting will coincide
with the
Fright Fest event at the store. Andrea couldn't remember what the event
was called, so she suggested that it was some-shit-for-HK day. Several
ideas were tossed around for this meeting: Barnaby's, OctoberFest at the school
(it was a dud last year), other restaurants, etc. This day is also Avis' birthday,
she will be 56 years young. This will be a pot-luck food situation and Avis will
be debuting a new recipe (it involves croissants and cream cheese).
· November: November 10th, 3-6pm, Nickel City Arcade. This will
be a "Fun"
meeting with cavorting and merry making. Andrea asked Barb if Nickel City
had a web page. For some reason, this question made Avis chuckle loudly.
Barb replied that there was indeed a web page "capcom.com". Andrea
likes to
get information about anywhere she goes beforehand. Andrea's motto is "know
before you go"
· December: December 8th or 15th, time to be determined, Holiday Inn.
This year's auction for charity will be a silent auction. We will also do
our Chinese auction at the December meeting this year. I will include Chinese
auction information at the end of the minutes.
-
Someone asked Spence where he lives and he replied Crestwood. Not too
many people knew where that was, so Spence said "It's near Alsip".
Someone noted that Alsip is Pisla spelled backwards.
-
Linda brought up the newsletter. She said that we could go on doing it in
black and white but that color
would be a lot better. She showed us the 'prototype' of the color
newsletter that Andrea has created as evidence. This 'prototype' newsletter is very
rare (limited to the number that Andrea feels like printing) and will be
auctioned off at an upcoming meeting. A
motion was made and carried to have a round of applause for Andrea's
artistic efforts. A round of applause was generated. All agreed that if the
price isn't too much, we would like the newsletter to be in color.
-
At this point Kay had to leave so she could catch her train back to the
city.
-
Avis brought up that our dues were in need of a tweak. Linda said that
our dues rates had not changed for many years. Avis suggested $15 for a single
member, $20 for a couple and $5 for each additional member. The members in
attendance agreed with this dues change.
-
Linda said we must nominate officers for next month's election. It was a
unanimous decision to keep the slate "as is". Everyone who is 'in'
is happy being 'in'. Everyone else is happy with the job that is being
done by the 'in' people, and are just glad that no one is asking them to
do anything.
-
Important note: Only those present at the meeting will be allowed to
vote.
-
Someone suggested that Pat should run for club secretary since he is
doing
the minutes this month. Pat said that he is happy in his position of
"Helping Hands Coordinator", and is proud to be the stand-in
minute-writing
guy.
-
It was suggested that we print ballots for next month's election, in case
anyone wanted to keep their vote secret. This idea was quickly dismissed as
no one is running against anyone anyway.
-
Linda officially closed the meeting at 3:45. General chaos ensued.
-
As promised, here is the info on the Chinese auction.
· Everyone who wants to be involved buys a gift (approximately $10).
· The gift should be something that will spark the interest of most of
the participants. This will stimulate trading which is the best part of this
event. The gifts should lean toward whimsical, or at least not very serious.
This is supposed to be fun; no one should plan on leaving with "the
gift of the century".
· Gifts should be wrapped but not labeled in any way.
· The gifts will be numbered by the emcee of the event.
· Each participant will draw a number from a hat (or box, or whatever is
handy).
· The person who draws number 1 goes up to the table and gets the gift
labeled '1'. This person just opens the gift and shuts up for now.
· The person who draws number 2 gets gift number 2 from the table. This
person can either open it or trade it for gift number 1.
· The person who draws number 3 gets gift number 3 from the table. This
person can either open it or trade it for any other gift that has been
opened.
· There are only two trading rules:
o No direct trade-backs. If Jeff trades a glow-in-the-dark HK doily to Pat
and Pat doesn't like it, he cannot trade it directly back to Jeff. He can,
however, trade it to Nancy, and she can trade it back to Jeff.
o Only three trades per turn. If Ann trades something to Avis and Avis
trades it to Tim and Tim trades it to Andrea, that's it for that turn. You
must now proceed to the next number.
o Trading after the game is over is encouraged. It might be the only way to
get rid of that strange item you ended up with.
