Many Thanks to our Humble Servant Pat Perry for filling in and jotting down these minutes. Is That George ever gonna do anything again?
  • The Meeting started at 3:00 pm and Pat & Andrea actually got there early for a change. The first item of business was a drawing. This drawing was held by Fin-Alley (we met in the store this month). The winners were:
Edith Blank - N. Strauss - Lorie Dinsdale - Bonnie Snyder - Bonnie Richards -
Gloria LaHay - Janet Torkelson - Adam Lach - Lorie Nelson - BooHog - Mary LePage -
Mary LePage - Marie Simmons - Bob Davidson - Nancy Snow - Gloria LaHay -
    Gloria LaHay - Bob Davidson
Roly Poly Hard Body Drawing: Mary LePage
  • Next we went over Anna's report. Three people are now running HBC:
Ryan, Sal and Anna. Anna is the club liaison.
  • All production is going back to England. Our question is: will some of the Chinese flowers be remade in England, or will they just be retired.
  • Pot Bellies will still be made in China.
  • There will be a total of 3000 Lord Foxglove pieces: 2500 U.S., 500 U.K. They will sell for $45.
  • The House Party Event is coming soon to a collectible store near you. Both Adam & Peter will be touring the country selling their own variations of the same piece. The two pieces will be the same, only the paint has been changed to protect the not-so-innocent. The House Party piece will be limited to a production of 2850. Adam will be appearing at Fin-Alley Gifts on October 5th, Peter will be appearing at European Imports on September 28th.
  • The next event will be Hallowfest. A limited edition of 5000 shrink-wrapped pairs of Halloween Roly Poly characters will be issued. As usual, there will be regular versions, hard bodies, and this time a jeweled Roly Poly
  • Lauren Atlas has just arrived with the Margaritas. There was a motion to have a Margarita Break. Someone tried to second the motion, but was quickly trampled in the stampede.
  • Back to businessshhh.
  • There will be a new series, possibly called Mystical Creatures. The dragon that we saw at the I.C.E. show will be the centerpiece of the series and will be limited to 3600 pieces. More pieces will follow including a Pegasus, a Unicorn, a Griffin, etc.
  • For all of you Lord Byron fans out there, you will rejoice to learn the our favorite insect will finally meet a female counterpart. We are wondering how explicit they will get, will there be an 18 and over version?
  • There might be an HBC convention in Las Vegas in October or November of 2002. Details to come.
  • HBC says that they might not do two I.C.E. shows next year. (Since the meeting, we have heard through the internet that there will be two; Rosemont and Atlanta).
  • Ann talked about her trip to England.
  • HBC is donating another Peter's Portrait to Harmony Midwest to use as a raffle prize.
  • This year's club piece is "Birds Of A Feather". It should be out around the end of the year.
  • We want to remind everyone again that we are raffling a complete set of early Adam Binder Faeries. The Tickets are $5 each or six for $20. All of this money will go to the Harmony Midwest Charitable Trust. Hopefully by the time these minutes are published, George has put the Raffle info on the Harmony Midwest web site.
  • Rosemont:
    1) At the Rosemont reunion we made $130 on the Noah's Park raffle.
    2) We lost $7 on the Touchy-Feely game. We officially blame Nancy (it wasn't her fault, but every failure needs a scape-goat).
    3) Thanks to Pat & Andrea for the Posters and the ladybug pins. By the way, ladybug pins are still available for $5 a piece.
  • Octoberfest:
At the October Meeting, in our usual pagan ritual, we will crown another Harvest Queen. Last year's Harvest Queen (April Bufton) is now responding to therapy.
  • Christmas:
Our December meeting will be on December 9th. At the meeting, we will celebrate the holidays with a festive meal and a Chinese Grab Bag. For those of you who missed last year's festivities, a Chinese Grab Bag goes like this:
The pre-wrapped and unlabeled gifts are numbered and put in a pile. Everyone draws a number. Whoever has a number 1 gets gift number 1. Then the person who gets number 2 has a choice: they can open the gift, or they can trade it with number 1. The next person gets gift number 3 and has the choice of opening it or trading it with either of the first two gifts. There is only one more rule: no direct trade-backs. It's a lot of fun. If you are coming, bring an inexpensive little gift with no label on it. Gag gifts are the best. I believe we decided on a limit of $15.
  • The Fall Paint-Your-Own project is going ahead. Linda is in charge and is doing a fine job as usual.
  • A motion was made to have Margaritas at every meeting.
  • There was a showing of Pat's spectacular movie from the Rosemont I.C.E. show, the Reunion, the Memories Dinner, etc. This was followed by applause.
  • Refreshments were provided by:
Sue & Spence? The Official Club Pudding (keep it coming)
Avis? Chocolate Éclair Cake, the Official Club Cake
    Loren Atlas? Margaritas
  • Show & Tell:
Ann brought "Day at the Races"
Andrea brought "Wee Beasties Panda", "Longaberger Peony", "Beer Nuts" and a small plastic see-through container purchased at the Container Store (59¢) that is perfect for displaying pendants.
  • The meeting then turned into a free-for-all where wild stories were told and recipes were exchanged.
  • The next meeting will be on September 16th.
