Minutes and News
October 5, 1997

While many of those who attended the first meeting could not make the second, we had many new members join. Members in attendance were: Dean, Kathy, Jean, Simone, Hank, Brenda G, Squirrel, Ann, Steve (the Weavers), and Michelle G.

A number of subjects were discussed including harmony garden being made in China, the popularity/unpopularity of Harmony Circus and Unbearables, The new Disney fab5 box, what we feel the future boxes might be, the Mascot direct chess set, Pewter pens, Baroque angel and split up angels, collectors insurance and surprise its a box. We had some very lively discussions and much information was exchanged.

The idea of a newsletter was brought up again and Lisa suggested making a newsletter which will include past minutes, member profile and a "favorite piece." It was decided that we didn't want to try compete with the "big boys"out there (who are doing such a great job already) but rather would produce a small newsletter of interest to Harmony Midwest members.

Many harmony kingdom boxes were brought, discussed and passed around. Among the pieces brought were: White brean sands with hand inside, Cats cradle too, in fine feather with marker painted beak, original Panda, Murphy's last stand with yellow feet on top penguin, Trumpeters ball with no color and extra trunk, The Widgeon and Marble SAC duck, Horn a Plenty SAC, SAC Straight from the Hip, Octobearfest, Circus pendant prototype, Puffin Pin, Hog heaven with pink colored pig, and a Rumble seat with beautiful green chair. A pooh box was displayed and a lottery was conducted for the opportunity to buy this piece at retail (no waiting list stress!) Kathy won the chance to buy the piece and went home very happy (Thanks to Dean).

The Next meeting will tentatively be the second Sunday of November.

Sunflower hint..note...travel...go west

Noel moving back to Greenwich Village.

New bulletin board (new posting under no dealer solicitation)?

Circus pendants (the special one-of-a-kind prototypes) being released when the Circus leaves town.

Noel also said that the Fab5 Disney piece was in the works , the pooh box was not limited and they are or just got 300 more.

There was mention of a 3rd NALED piece - limited to 3600.

Also mentioned was that about 500 Octobearfests vs Oktobearfests escaped (BigN was not positive on this though).

Inside the silver rose will be lord Byron at the last supper before his journey (if it is made as there are some hang ups - price being one of them).

Rumor was running rampant about a new sudden death around the corner - something to do with breakage or mold problems (it went so fast I am not sure). Rumor was flying that it might be splashdown but then Noel said that it was such a popular piece that it didn't seem like he wanted to retire it. Lisa gave a hint about a "rather large" (maybe a retirement?).

Terra Incognita price increase due to the fact that the piece was tearing up the mold like a madman -possible retire?

Lisa (Noel's Partner) gave a hint: Dianne with a french accent.

It was Lisa's birthday

As you can see, the chat was FAST and FURIOUS and much is still unclear!

Member Profile - Lisa Burdge

Hi, I'm Lisa Burdge better known as Squirrel. I've been married 7 years to Stratos a.k.a..John. My "boys"are Maxx and Toby, both adopted from the shelter when they were pups.

I first discovered Harmony Kingdom at Rosemont in 96, but was too stingy to part with $35.00 for a membership. What I wouldn't do to change that now!

1997 is the year I finally took the plunge and boy have I plunged deep. I didn't buy my first piece till after the membership kit arrived sometime in July and to date I have 54 pieces.

I love the story lines behind these wonderful creations and meeting my fellow collectors who like me, have a great passion for HK.

Favorite Piece

Walking through the many booths at Rosemont, I came upon Harmony Kingdom. I was so intrigued by the hidden compartments inside those beautiful sculptures. I put down my payment that day and became a member.
At Arms Length Several weeks later I received my packet with pictures of most of the pieces. Looking through them oooing and ahhing, I came across one piece that brought back a special memory.

Many years ago I watched a National Geographic report on the Mediterranean sea. During an underwater look at the bottom of the sea, I was shocked at how flat and barren it was. The reporter told how the local fisherman caught octopus by attaching clay posts to long lines they dropped into the water. Due to the bottom being so barren, the competition for living space was fierce.

The Octopus would occupy the seemingly empty homes only to be pulled to the surface the next day. I made a childhood vow to one day buy hundreds of pots and dump them into the sea. I would give everyone of them a home, no ropes attached.

Well, I made it to the Mediterranean sea but forgot my childhood vow. Until that is, the day I saw "At Arm's Length."Now at least MY octopus has a home....No ropes attached.
